Some interesting history behind Easter traditions
When exactly is Easter? It was determined in A.D. 325 by a Roman emperor, Constantine, that Easter
should be the Sunday of or after the first full moon of spring. That means it can fall any time between
March 22 and April 25.
Why do we give chocolate eggs? The egg symbolizes rebirth in many cultures and in the 19th century
confectioners sweetened up this custom by making egg-shaped pastries and marzipan eventually settling on
Chocolate Easter Eggs.
Where does the Easter Bunny come from? According to mythology, the Easter Bunny was originally a
large sacred bird belonging to the pagan goddess of spring, Easter (for whom Easter is named). It is said,
that is a fit of rage the goddess turned the bird into a bunny. But the bunny did not lose all of its bird
like qualities as it still makes straw nests full of eggs.
